We Started Where You Are

Back in 2019, my friend Jasper and I were sitting in a coffee shop in downtown Halifax. He'd just gotten his first decent paycheque and wanted to start investing. But here's the thing—neither of us had a clue where to begin. The information out there was either too complex or too vague.

That conversation stuck with me. And it turned out we weren't alone. Thousands of Canadians earn good money but don't know how to make it work for them over time.

So we built something different. Not flashy investment advice or get-rich-quick schemes. Just straightforward education about regular investing that actually makes sense.

Tymtron started as a side project in early 2020. We wanted to create resources that explained investing the way a friend would—honest, practical, without the jargon that makes your eyes glaze over. By mid-2021, we had our first full program running.

Today, we focus entirely on teaching people how regular investing works. The kind where you set aside money consistently, understand what you're doing, and build wealth gradually. It's not exciting, but it works.

How We Think About Teaching

Most financial education tries to cover everything. We don't. We focus specifically on regular investing strategies because that's what most people actually need.

Our programs walk you through the basics first. What an index fund actually is. How compound interest works over years, not months. Why market dips aren't the disaster they feel like.

Then we get into the practical stuff—how to automate investments, how to rebalance your portfolio, how to think about risk based on your actual timeline. Not theory. Real steps you can take.

We also spend time on the psychological side. Because knowing what to do and actually doing it are two different things. Especially when markets drop and your gut tells you to panic.

Who Builds Your Learning Experience

We're a small team based in Halifax. Most of us came from different backgrounds—education, finance, technology—but we all share the same frustration with how investing is usually taught.

Elspeth Kirkbride

Director of Learning Development

Elspeth spent eight years designing curriculum for adult education programs before joining us in 2022. She's the reason our content actually flows logically instead of jumping around.

She believes most people are smarter than financial educators give them credit for. They just need information presented in a way that respects their time and intelligence. So she strips out the fluff and keeps the substance.

When she's not restructuring modules, she's probably hiking the trails around Cape Breton or arguing with her book club about character motivations.

Finding Your Starting Point

Not everyone needs the same information at the same time. Here's how we help you figure out where to begin based on where you actually are.

1

First Question: Are You Investing Already?

If yes, you probably need our intermediate content that covers portfolio construction and rebalancing strategies. If no, you'll want to start with our foundations module that explains basic concepts.

Common situation: You have an RRSP through work but don't actually understand what's in it or how it works.

2

Second Question: How Much Time Can You Commit?

Our full program runs over six months starting in September 2025. But we also have shorter intensive workshops if you need information faster. Both cover the same core material, just structured differently.

The longer format gives you time to actually implement things between sessions. The workshop format is better if you want to absorb everything quickly and figure out implementation on your own.

3

Third Question: Do You Learn Better Alone or With Others?

Some people prefer self-paced materials they can work through independently. Others benefit from group discussions where they can ask questions and hear what others are struggling with.

We offer both options. The self-directed path includes all the same content plus access to our support forum. The cohort-based program includes live sessions and direct interaction with instructors.

4

Fourth Question: What's Your Actual Goal?

Understanding your timeline matters. Saving for retirement in 25 years is different from building an emergency fund you might need next year. Different goals require different approaches.

We'll help you match your learning path to your actual financial timeline. Not some generic plan, but one that fits your specific situation and comfort level with risk.
